Lampeter Town Council

Lampeter Town Council was initially established in 1884 when the town received its charter as a municipal borough. The charter is on display in the County Council's Office in Market Street. Since then, Local Government has undergone many changes, most recently with the establishment of Ceredigion County Council in 1996.

The Town Council has a variety of responsibilities, including Parc yr Orsedd, the CCTV system, street furniture and a number of footpaths in the area. It makes observations on planning applications, before they are decided upon by Ceredigion County Council. It works in partnership with other local organisations, providing funding for events, clubs and services in the town. The council appoints members to sit on the Swimming Pool Board and School Governing bodies. It is also a part owner of Menter Llambed and appoints three directors to the company's board.

Councillors are elected on a Lampeter wide basis every 4 years, and give their time voluntarily. The Town Clerk is the Council's only direct employee, and although some work is contracted out, much is done by the councillors themselves, in order to keep costs to a minimum.

Council meetings are open to the public, and are held on the last Thursday of the month at St Peter's Church Hall at 7.30pm. Minutes and accounts are regularly posted to this website, and are also available from the Town Clerk.
